Post Office silver

I bought a book of stamps at the post office. The postal worker handed me my change, and it made a distinct "clink" as it dropped into my hand. He then motioned to me to unclench my hand, as though he might not have given me the correct amount. As I opened my hand, he looked at the change and I could tell his instinct was to take it back, but he knew that it was too late. "I think you got an old one there. Silver coin. That's worth something."

Sure enough, a 1964 quarter.

It's amazing how much delight this brings. We're a sick bunch!

It's been so long since I've stumbled over any 90% that I almost don't remember. Mostly I'm irritated that the currency has been debased to the point that we're thrilled at the prospect of finding money with real value.

But you're right, as long ago as it was that I last unexpectedly heard that ring on a counter, I still remember just floating for the rest of the day.
